Medicine Balls, Double Grip Medicine Balls
Medicine balls offer added weight with an easy to grip surface to provide challenge in rehabilitation exercises as well as strength training. Also referred to as fitness balls, exercise balls, or simply med balls, these should not be confused with inflatable exercise ball equipment. Rather, medicine balls are weighted balls approximately 14 inches in diameter and weight in the area of 25lbs each. They are most commonly associated with sports medicine because they are used in plyometric weight training to increase power. When used during abdominal exercises, these exercise balls increase strength. Boxers often drop the balls on their abs to build muscle strength to withstand punches. Throwing medicine balls increases core strength as well as coordination. Construction of medicine balls varies depending on intended use and whether bounce is required. Materials include leather, vinyl, nylon, neoprene, and rubber, with varying core materials such as sand or rubber bladders for air.
